Urban Choreography

(Ages 7 - Adult)

Our non-competitive urban choreography classes are based on a 10 month program with year end performance opportunities.  Urban choreography classes experiment with a wide variety of hip hop styles fused with other genres specifically stylized by each teacher/choreographer.

Age Divisions

Junior - 7 - 12 years old

Teen - 13 - 17 years old

Adult - 18+

Level Descriptions

Beginner 1 – Understanding choreography techniques, body control, musicality & timing.  This level focuses on these concepts and will apply them to a full choreography routine for a year end performance.

Beginner 2 – Takes the same concepts and ideas as level 1 and applies them to more “performance” based scenarios.  Time is spent strengthening performance skills and stage presence. Dancers are then prepared for a year end performance where they will be tested for advancement into the Intermediate level.

Intermediate 1 – This level explores enhancing movement quality and body awareness.  The difficulty of choreography and musicality is raised, while teaching pace is also accelerated.  Students will explore a wider variety of choreography styles and apply them to a full choreography routine for a year end performance.

Intermediate 2 – Dancers are challenged to increase their ability to pick up choreography at a faster pace.  Dancers will learn accelerated combinations on a weekly basis. More classes will be spent learning how to navigate through a more advanced choreography class as well as broaden different styles of urban choreography.  Dancers are then prepared for a year end performance where they will be tested for advancement into the Advanced level.

Advanced – All choreography concepts are tested in this level.  Dancers are pushed to connect past simple choreography movements and explore more mature ideas and themes.  Frequent combinations are taught in these classes, and dancers will be trained as a non-competitive performance team.

We've structured a program where dancers can develop important skill sets directly relevant to choreography execution and performance.  Regardless of age, dancers will experience the exact same training and structure but applied appropriately through each age division.

For example:

Urban Choreography Beginner 1 - Junior

Urban Choreography Beginner 1 - Adult

In this case, both classes will focus on the same ideas and skill sets but will be separated by age and maturity.  Juniors will experience very little inappropriate music and less suggestive choreography but level of training will not be compromised.  Where as adults will experience more mature themes and ideas while still being given structure and progressive training.

**PLEASE NOTE THAT INSTRUCTORS WILL BE GIVEN FIRST OPTION TO RE-ASSIGN STUDENTS IF THEY ARE IN THE INCORRECT LEVEL**
